Enter the Chalk Circle Short Fiction Competition
Cash prizes and publication for short fiction entries.
Chalk Circle’s 2026 writing competition has two categories. The Chalk Circle 1500 accepts short fiction in any format up to 1,500 words and awards a £200 prize. The Chalk Circle 360 requires circular flash fiction of exactly 360 words, excluding the title, and awards £50.
How to enter
Read the competition rules, choose a category and submit through the official Chalk Circle entry page by 31 August 2026. Standard entry costs £10 for Chalk Circle 1500 or £7 for Chalk Circle 360. This is a paid-entry writing competition and no free entry route is advertised.
Eligibility and judging
Entries may cover any subject and any genre except children’s fiction. The promoter says its judges are looking for strong storytelling. The page does not publish a general residency restriction or minimum age in the visible competition details, so entrants should review the full submission rules before paying.
Winning UK does not run or judge this competition. Chalk Circle handles submissions, judging and prize fulfilment.
Before entering
Winning UK is a directory, not the organiser. Confirm the prize, closing date, eligibility, entry instructions and winner-selection details in the official terms before giving the operator your information.
