People on the NHS Healthy Start scheme are entitled to free vitamins. The scheme provides tablets containing folic acid and vitamins C and D for eligible people who are pregnant or breastfeeding, and vitamin A, C and D drops for young children.

How to get them

In England or Wales, ask a midwife or health visitor where to collect them and show the Healthy Start card. In Northern Ireland, the scheme explains how to request delivery after an application is accepted. Scotland has a separate Best Start Foods scheme.

Important health information

Follow the official dosage advice. Children drinking 500ml or more of infant formula each day generally do not need the drops because formula already contains added vitamins. Ask a healthcare professional if unsure.
